Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is currently seeking a Tooling Engineer 2/3 to join our team in Rocket Center, WV, just outside of Cumberland, MD. The Allegany Ballistics Laboratory (ABL) site in Rocket Center designs, develops and manufactures tactical rocket motors, medium caliber ammunition, composite components and end items, and fuze and electronics equipment. For decades, the dedicated and highly skilled team at ABL have supported national security efforts by developing and building defense systems for DoD customers and U.S. allies.

This position will join a team that designs, sketches and analyzes tooling needs for both production and development programs. In this role, you will perform calculations for tools and present the results to peers and upper management. You will also maintain production tools and design, fabricate, and proof tools for production or development programs.


Additional responsibilities include:

  • Determine requirements for tools/machines needed in all areas of the plant
  • Create designs to meet the program cost and schedule requirements
  • Interface with design review teams to ensure customer satisfaction with designs
  • Present designs to Plant Process Control Board
  • Develop tooling concepts; creating, reviewing and improving manufacturing processes
  • Create 2-D sketches and perform stress analysis calculations on tooling designs
  • Check drawings against departmental standards
  • Review drawings and designs for manufacturability
  • Work with machine shops to have tools fabricated
  • Work with Operations to proof new tools
  • Attend Integrated Product Team meetings

Rocket Center, WV is located along the North Branch Potomac River in Mineral County, West Virginia and is home to the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory (ABL), a government installation operated by Northrop Grumman. Known for its scenic mountain landscapes, rolling hills and state parks, the region offers a multitude of outdoor recreational opportunities to include hiking, mountain biking, skiing, fishing, hunting and whitewater rafting. Requirements

Qualifications:


Basic Qualifications for a Level 2:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Manufacturing or Civil Engineering & 2 years of related experience
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated hands-on mechanical ability
  • Knowledge of computer aided design software
  • Microsoft Office proficiency - Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.
  • Able to obtain a Secret security clearance (US Citizenship is required)
  • Successful candidates will be Action Oriented, Resourceful, Tech Savvy, and will be able to Communicate Effectively and possess Situational Adaptability

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated hands-on mechanical ability

  • Able to obtain a Secret security clearance (US Citizenship is required)
  • Successful candidates will be Action Oriented, Resourceful, Tech savvy, and will be able to

  • Working knowledge of material strengths and engineering applications
  • Understanding of design costs and schedules
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing existing tools
  • Working knowledge of GD&T per ANSI/ASME Y14.5M-1994
  • Willingness to work off-hours to support program needs, when needed
  • Experience in mechanical and/or machine design
