Plant Manager ; (Director Operations)
Our client is a European based international organization recognized for quality and innovation. The company has had a sales presence in the U.S. since 2001. They later established a manufacturing presence in the U.S. in 2014. They are now adding the first U.S. based Plant Manager (Director Operations) to lead the US manufacturing effort. This is a newly created position and has opportunity to grow with the organization in the U.S.

This will be the first addition of a senior U.S.-based manufacturing leader. The role will serve to lead the manufacturing effort and will serve as a cultural liaison / guide to the U.S. market. It is expected that this person has the capability to grow in this leadership role as the company grows.
The company has moved to a new manufacturing site that has only been in operation for a few short months. This Director Operation will need to build the team and grow the organizations capabilities. The small dedicated team needs the leadership of a seasoned, hand on operations professional.
As the organization grows in the US, the systems and processes will need to be developed and refined. The Director Operations will contribute to building these systems. Finding, developing and retaining people are critical to success for this organization. Refining the methods and processes around the “people systems” will be important to finding and retaining critical talent in a demanding labor market. A challenge for this leader will be to build an engagement culture to support high quality, low cost products and support employee retention.
The successful candidate for this position will be an experienced operations leader with demonstrated success leading in a high quality, technical manufacturing organization. This is a growing manufacturing operation with a small team which requires a roll- up the sleeves, hands-on leader.
The ideal candidate will be an engaged builder and strategic business partner and contributing member of the US leadership team. They must have solid business acumen and a detailed understanding of multi-functional business issues. They will be an effective team builder and decision maker with a high sense of urgency. They will have a demonstrated history of implementing effective operating systems including LEAN / TPS and have employed advanced analytical skills and fact based problem solving capabilities (Six Sigma). They will have strong critical thinking skills.
This candidate will understand the technology and processes but will make the biggest impact through people, processes and systems. Success in this role will require the ability to lead employee engagement and development. They will have had experience successfully building and leading a team to reach defined objectives through effective coaching, mentoring and the development of employees. They will have demonstrated leadership ability to engage the organization with a focus on delivering results.
This position requires effective interpersonal relationship skills for a wide range of interactions both inside the organization and externally with the community, suppliers and customers. This candidate must have clear and effective written and oral communication skills.
He / she will be an accomplished leader with relevant operations experience in a technical manufacturing environment. They must have well developed competencies required for success in this position including the ability to work closely with engineers to provide solutions. We seek an exceptional leader with the ability to build effective, trusting relationships.
We seek a candidate with a “systems / process driven” results-oriented style. They will be described as a passionate and dynamic leader with the energy and communication skills to work effectively across the organization.
This position will be required to travel internationally to Europe to participate in face to face interactions with the members of the parent company.
This candidate will have highest standard of unquestioned professional conduct and act continuously to model integrity and credibility.
Bachelor of Science degree is required (Prefer Engineering, Chemistry, Operations Leadership, Material Science, Business or related field preferred. A graduate degree is desirable.
Internal & External Relationships:
This position is a member of the USA leadership Team and will report directly to the executive team.
They must have a high level of organizational agility working across the
International organization, with employees, the community, suppliers and customers. The contact and interactions in this organization are best described as frequent and informal with a focus on getting the job done.
This position will be based in Weirton, WV.
