Role Overview

This position is responsible for the providing leadership, direction and support in the design/installation and maintenance of mechanical services to the manufacturing unit. Provides expertise and directs the activities of others engaged in activities related to mechanical engineering, reliability/maintenance, systems, and controls to achieve overall plant goals relating to safety, quality, throughput, and efficiency.

Focus on equipment reliability to drive variation from plant processes and achieve targeted goals for product quality, process throughput, and customer’s schedule for material receipt. Manage mechanical projects and efforts and support area maintenance team when complex troubleshooting and root cause analysis efforts are required. 24/7 response to major plant issues including but not limited to equipment failures, equipment damage, equipment downtime.


Manage all unit operations to attain Works and Corporate objectives and plans, and to meet customer expectations with respect to the production and shipment of product.
Provide a strong mechanical understanding of process, and electrical components involved in equipment throughout plant.
Encourage and promote process, product and equipment development to contribute to maintenance or improvement of profits and minimization of operating costs.
Responsible for troubleshooting encounters that center around meeting production needs in the face of tight, frequently revised schedules and/or equipment failures, the start up of new equipment, development of new products and processes.
Direct, develop and train personnel to establish a Manufacturing Unit organization that effectively and continually functions smoothly and efficiently, with individuals capable of handling greater responsibilities.
Develop practical solutions to repetitive equipment failure problems and contribute to the effectiveness of the maintenance efforts.
Ensure all equipment recommended repaired or modified meets all company and governmental safety and health rules and regulations to help ensure safety of all employees.
Coaching and mentoring with craftspeople through the skill assessment process will be required.
Help establish and implement maintenance, operational, and capital budgets along with performance objectives, development plans, goals and programs to contribute to maximization of return on investment of the unit.
Administers Works and Corporate practices and policies uniformly to ensure equal treatment of all employees and conformity with other departments.
Establish and enforce policies and practices required to provide safe equipment, a safe working environment and safe work practices.
Promote EHS policy, implement the EHS management system and ensure continual improvement of EHS performance in day to day operations.
Maintain good housekeeping and safe working conditions at all times.

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. Mechanical strongly preferred.
Certification in at least one skilled trade
Minimum of 10 years of maintenance experience in an industrial manufacturing environment. Five years’ supervisory experience over technical skilled personnel
Thorough knowledge of design, development and test engineering and manufacturing operations. Aluminum Industry preferred
Overall knowledge of industrial equipment with prior hands-on experience
Excellent working knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and power transmission equipment
Proven knowledge of machine shop, welding and electrical practices.
Experience working in a unionized environment. Preferred.
Superior oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate with all levels in the organization
Troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis
Solid computer skills with software applications proficiency, including Microsoft Office. Ability to master new software quickly. Read and interrupt mechanical print/schematics/drawings, etc.
Ability to organize and prioritize workload; must be able to manage multiple tasks at once without sacrificing attention to detail
High degree of initiative, self-motivation, flexibility, and ability to operate in a fast-paced and demanding environment
Must also possess leadership skills to direct, lead and develop other personnel to accomplish personal, plant and corporate objectives
