Perform the following job duties for steel making operations: melting, rolling and fabricating primarily at the company’s 40-acre manufacturing facilities.

Provide in-house hands-on and theoretical training (60% of the time): Design, develop, implement and teach an in-house training course to mill electricians in electrical, electronics and automation application for the company’s steel mill equipment. Provide field training to mill electricians on electrical troubleshooting of mill production equipment. Manage and participate in the training of the company’s electricians during vendor state-of-the-art equipment startups. Manage High Voltage training of the company’s engineering and maintenance employees at third party training facilities. Provide electrical expertise and guidance in the writing and evaluation of the electrical portion of OSHA mandated Lockout Tagout procedures.

Perform Electrical/Electronic Communication Engineering (40% of the time): Evaluate mill equipment network switches, converters and communication cabling, such as ethernet, fiber optic, and Data Highway, for improved reliability and speed. Design and manage the installation of wired communications network infrastructure and of wireless communication systems, including transmitters, receivers, boosters and device access points, for mill equipment. Physically install, maintain and upgrade PLC (programmable logic controllers) and HMI (human machine interface) controls. Design and oversee the installation of new and/or upgrades to high voltage transmission equipment.
Travel for up to 7-10 days per trip is required up to 10% of the time to the company’s US affiliates in Memphis, TN and in Greenup and Ashland, KY; travel for up to 7-10 days once a year may be required to equipment vendors overseas.

  • Master’s degree or foreign equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Communications Engineering or closely related electrical engineering major and
  • 3 years’ experience in the job offered or as Electrical Engineer or Instructor or Teaching or Research Assistant or closely related occupations which must have included:teaching experience at the post-secondary undergraduate level or above, to include at least 24 courses, semester or quarter, in the following subject areas: Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Laboratory, Digital Electronics or Digital Electronics Laboratory, Circuits, Circuits and Control on Rockwell Studio Logix, and Communication Transceivers or Communication Systems.

The employer will accept on-the-job experience and/or post-secondary graduate-level research experience in lieu of all or part of the teaching experience in the above subject areas.
