Nature of Work
Department of Administration/General Services/Kanawha Co. - Under limited supervision, performs highly complex engineering, architectural, and technical work managing large, on-going construction for major building infrastructure, review project plans and specifications for new and newly renovated buildings. Working knowledge of building structures, mechanical HVAC systems, electrical life safety, fire protection, structural systems, and environmental conditions for General Services Division. Consults with designers, end users, and other professionals to provide technical assistance to ensure proposals comply with various State, Federal, and local regulations and standards. Responsible for development of project definition and scope. Work involves project management of all phases of work on multiple projects simultaneously, overseeing project construction and scheduling, visit construction sites to evaluate contract work, inspect building systems, and monitor all critical areas of construction. Requires architectural and/or engineering education, training, computer literacy, CAD skills and experience with other professional attributes as necessary to the planning and completion of architectural and/or engineering services. Applicants registered with the West Virginia Board of Architects and/or West Virginia Board of Professional Engineers may be given preference. Preference may be given to candidates with working knowledge and verifiable three years minimum experience in autocad and document preparation. Training: Bachelor’s degree in architecture or engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
Experience: Four years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in architecture or engineering, plus two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in commercial building project management in the area of assignment.
