Manufacturing Fast Track Program

RCBI’s Advanced Manufacturing Technology Centers in Huntington, Charleston or Bridgeport.

The Manufacturing Fast Track Program at the Robert C. Byrd Institute (RCBI) allows individuals to update their machining/CNC skills in as little as three months.

The customizable Manufacturing Fast Track Program provides:

  • Up to 40 hours of instruction in computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), manual machining, CNC, or additive manufacturing (3D Printing)
  • Additional online coursework to support the one-on-one instruction

Training is available at RCBI’s Advanced Manufacturing Technology Centers in Huntington, Charleston or Bridgeport. Open enrollment – start anytime. Depending on employer schedules these could be a 3-4 month course. Night courses can be scheduled.

    To encourage innovation and problem-solving among students interested in agriculture, the Robert C. Byrd Institute (RCBI) and statewide partners announce the second-annual West Virginia Agriculture Technology & Innovation Student Competition, which offers cash prizes to winners.The competition emphasizes solving an agriculture issue in one of the six focus areas: agribusiness systems; plant systems; animal systems; environmental and natural resources management; power, structural and technical systems; and food products and processing systems. The competition was designed to complement the new skills sets recently added recently to agricultural students’ studies about innovation and technology.

    Students now is your chance to make an impact in Agriculture and win $. Have an idea to improve agriculture? Provide a summery, explain the problem, describe your solution, explain the impact.

    Applications can be completed electronically at www.rcbi.org/go/agcompet and are due by October 19. West Virginia students in 7th through 12th grades are eligible to compete. Finalists will pitch their ideas Nov. 14 at the West Virginia Agricultural Innovation Showcase in Moorefield. Category presentations Nov 24th in Moorefield. Final presentations, Category and overall winners will be announced Dec. 13 at the West Virginia Agricultural Innovation Showcase in Huntington. Cash prizes, including a top prize of $500, will be awarded to winning entries in each category.

    • Applications are reviewed by an independent panel of judges who will select finalists to be featured at Thrive.
    • Leading up to the event, finalists meet with local business coaches to get tips and suggestions for their respective business plan presentations.
    • Finalists pitch business plan to promote their idea and outline need for capital investment at Thrive.
    • Top vote-getting entrepreneur will take home cash prize to scale-up operations.

    Where does capital investment come from?

    • Community members pay a $30 entry fee to attend Thrive, which gives them the opportunity to vote for an entrepreneur to support for capital investment.
    • Community member attendance fees are combined with seed capital from event sponsors for the top vote-getter’s capital investment.

    The Robert C. Byrd Institute (RCBI) is hosting its monthly Raspberry Pi User Group meeting in its Maker Vault. Whether you’re already an expert or just curious about programming and use of the ultra-affordable devices, join us at RCBI Huntington (1050 Fourth Avenue) to explore different versions of the Pi hardware and software, and focus on popular uses of the small computers. The group will assist you in getting your own Raspberry Pi up and running as well as working on collective projects. Participants should bring a Raspberry Pi and we’ll provide the expertise.

    The WV Ag Showcase returns for another great event –at two locations. If you have attended in the past then you know we have a tremendous number of organizations available for hands-on demonstrations, to answer questions, etc. Moorefield location - this year we will have our adult session the same day as the youth, however, the schedule will be divided. 8:30 – 1:30: Students (adults are welcome – just be aware it will be crowded and geared towards students). 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. Adult Session
